For those who STILL don't know.
No and yes.
It is not doomsday for the Internet. However, it is doomsday for the unrepentant. The DNSChanger malware was detected a couple of years ago and FBI had put a stop to the ring behind the malware 8 months ago. FBI extended a goodwill action to keep those commanding DNS servers alive through court order and had apply for extensions to keep it up while they engage with users to get that malware off from their systems.
9th July is approaching and it is not really sensible to plonk down money just to support 275000 machines which users refuse to take action to rectify the problem. They are given more than sufficient heads up with both online and offline coverage of the malware and the solutions to get it off.
Like what Anon User had posted, go to http://www.dns-ok.us/ and if the background is green, you are fine. Otherwise, hit the panic button!
Stop! Not the panic button just yet. Visit this link http://www.dcwg.org/fix/ and find a suitable fix. If all else fails, send your machine/device for servicing.
P.S. This article here sums up my feelings about the situation: http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/258846/there_is_no_ex...
